NIU Football Meal Program

Hey guys,

I hope this email finds everyone doing great and ready for summer. We had a great football alumni event this past Friday at NIU. I think we had about 17 players from the 1983 team out of 70 alums who attended. Coach Rob Harley (Interim Coach) had all the players from the current roster and all the alums sitting together in the team meeting theatre room, we also all ate a BBQ dinner together. Coach and all the assistants spoke and man they were good, energetic, and passionate! Coach Harley is very appreciative of all the support the alums have given him and the team. Coach is an Ohio State football alum, he understands the importance of alums to the program, he gets it! Our program is in great hands fellas, I hope you all get to meet Rob, you will love his passion and commitment he is making to NIU!

The football program is lacking in financial support, going into the Mountain West is proving to be a big boost financially. It also will put a much larger spotlight and attention on the program. As you may know, all D1 programs feed their teams protein (pre-morning workouts) and a solid breakfast after. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funds, our players are not getting enough protein or meals, some days, even just donuts. There is a group of Football Alums who have gotten together to raise money for meals, our short-term goal is to raise $350,000, of which we have about $75,000 committed so far. I would like to ask you all to make some commitment, no matter the amount, to help get these kids fed and a chance to fulfill their own physical goals.

Rich Burns has taken a significant amount of time developing the new Football Alumni Network, including working to get emails and phone numbers for all living football alums. This task is so time consuming and selfless, I want to thank Rich right here for all he is doing. His commitment will ultimately enhance our program!
